Toolally's founder and Creative Director, Mags, is always happy to talk about jewellery and share her opinions. Our social team recently asked her for some of her thoughts 😊

How can you add instant glamour to an outfit?

“I’ll always remember when I went skiing with my friend Fiona. We were sitting in the bar, after skiing, and were engrossed in a game so we were a bit late for going out. So, as we didn’t have much time to get ready, we agreed to do a ‘splash and dash’. Two minutes later we both came downstairs; I’d basically just nipped to the loo, and Fiona came down looking like a blonde bombshell. All she’d actually done is fluffed up her hair and put on a pair of our black and gold Sundial earrings and some lipstick - instant glamour. She looked stunning!”

"Don’t be tight!"

“This one is for birthdays and Valentine’s Day. If anyone thinks that turning up with a bunch of forecourt flowers is going to cut it, they’re sadly mistaken. You don’t have to spend a fortune, just spend wisely. We’ve got some gorgeous heart earrings, from £45; you can afford that…go on, don’t be tight!”

What are your thoughts on mixing metals?

“It depends what you are trying to achieve. For me, personally, if you’re wanting to look smart and well put-together and elegant, then I would keep all the metals in one colour. But if I’m being a bit more ‘Boho’, a bit more layered and piling it all on, I think you can totally mix metals. In fact I think it looks really cool when it’s mixed like that. But I do hate it if it doesn't look considered; that’s the key. So if you’re not wearing much jewellery, just earrings, a bracelet and a pendant, and one of them is gold and the rest is silver it just looks like you’ve messed up a bit.”

What would you say to those who are nervous about wearing big earrings?

“Just do it! Big earrings are the best fun, they make you look fabulous and they are an instant glamourising accessory.“

How do you elevate an outfit?

“Generally speaking I stick with silver at the moment when I’m coming to work or walking the dogs, but occasionally I’ll colour match my earrings to my outfit and I instantly feel less boring! I love my red art deco chandeliers teamed with my red cardigan. The best thing about putting colourful jewellery on is that everybody comments on it.”

Any jewellery no-no’s?

“I really don’t like statement earrings with a big necklace; I just think it’s too much. It also detracts from how fabulous the earrings are. So for me, personally, if I’m wearing a big pair of statement earrings that’s it, that’s enough in that area. A bangle and some rings are nice though.”

Final words of wisdom

“If there’s one thing I’ve learnt as I’ve got older, it’s that nobody’s looking at me! So I’ve got to stop being so self-conscious, and just choose the things that I love that make me feel amazing, and not worry so much about what anybody else thinks. I can’t believe I used to be so self-conscious - but actually, nobody cares, they’re more interested in themselves, so do what you want!”
